This beer tastes very good when it has good carbonation. Time and time again, I run into quality control issues where their beer is close to or almost completely flat. I bought a 6 pack of double IPA recently that had virtually no head or carbonation, and it tasted terrible (in the response to my review Ommegang says they don't make a beer called 'double pale ale,' which I called it initially. It is actually called 'double India Pale ale,' and it is definitely an Ommegang product, I guess they are trying to imply that I got the brand wrong in my review, but I know what I am reviewing, and, until recently, I wouldn't buy any beer EXCEPT Ommegang). Not so good considering a six pack of doube IPA costs $15. I've also had a problem with the cans of Nirvana IPA, which make a nice head when opened but which retain almost no carbonation in the beer itself. I buy these at the local supermarket in Cooperstown, only a few miles from the brewery, so I don't think it is old stock. Those of us who like beer for its taste are very disappointed when we get a lousy tasting bottle or can of beer. I have also had the bottled IPA where half the bottles are virtually flat and the others make a good head and taste good. This brewery needs better quality control for its products. I used to drink Ommegang beer exclusively, but the issues I have experienced with inconsistent quality have caused me to switch to other brands. Another issue that isn't related to product quality is the fact that Ommegang recently received a grant from New York State for half a million dollars to expand their facility. I have a problem with corporate welfare, and this is a prime example. It is ironic that all the politicians who espouse the market as the arbiter of success don't complain about huge handouts of our hard-earned tax dollars to enrich corporations, while they often do complain about what they disingenuously call 'entitlements' for poor people or workers who have paid into social security all their lives. It is another example of take from the poor, give to the rich, which seems to be one of the main prerogatives of our government.
